A few words about us
Rebecca Freitas started her college experience pursuing a degree in architecture. She soon found her studies to be too abstract for her, plus she knew she didn’t want a job behind a desk or in the office. With a combination of good math skills and good people skills, Rebecca found her niche at the Del E. Webb School of Construction.
“Construction management is a big organization of people,” she says. “Working together, you go from nothing to making a building.”
Earning her degree in construction management, Rebecca was named outstanding graduate in spring 2011. Today, she is a project engineer with Arizona-based Hardison Downey Construction Inc. She says that every day brings something different.”One day I might be working with plans and estimates, another I am meeting with owners and subs (subcontractors),” she says.
She is currently working on two projects for ASU—building a new dining hall and housing at ASU West.
Her advice to new students? Get involved!
During her time at ASU, Rebecca was active in several organizations. She helped encourage other female students to pursue careers in
construction through Advancing Women in Construction. She was president of the construction honors society, where members worked
on projects for Habitat for Humanity. Rebecca was also on the first place team at the Reno Competition, a regional student construction
management competition organized by the Associated Schools of Construction.
“The Del E. Webb School of Construction has a great reputation in the industry,” she says. “Take advantage of everything it has to offer both in and out of the classroom.”
