building structure closeup The focus of the mechanics and infrastructural materials cluster is on experimental and computational methods to understand the structural, mechanical, chemical, and thermal response of a wide variety of engineered materials including conventional and modified portland cement and concrete, fiber and particulate reinforced composites, and biocomposites. The group uses advanced material characterization and testing tools combined with state-of-the art computational and numerical modeling approaches to develop sustainable and novel infrastructural materials, and develop design guidelines for the use of these materials in a wide variety of applications seen in aerospace, biomedical, mechanical, structural and defense industries.
